This past weekend we ventured out of the house (we were starting to get cabin fever) and headed to the Treasure Island Flea Market. We've been to the Alameda Flea Market before, but we were rookies to Treasure Island. It's a lot smaller (and I think cheaper) so you can definitely manage rummaging around there in a few hours.
We ended up snatching a few items for the house. Including a giant bottle of homemade honey. The guy totally sold us on how it remedies allergies. Has anyone ever tried this? The husband and I suffer from realllyyyy bad allergies. We get them at least twice a week and are as sick as dogs. We've taken so many different types of medication that we've become immune to many of them. So hopefully honey works for us. If not, I'll have to think of lots of recipes that call for honey!
Other than the honey guy, there were lots of booths with some quirky stuff. There were also tons of food trucks lined up which made this little mama happy. We ended up having a nice little family picnic with the best view of San Francisco. If you go, I recommend trying the mini donuts. Ask to hear the background story as well. The husband recommends the pulled pork sandwich with homemade mac and cheese. I have to agree too. I may or may not have sampled his food and secretly wished I got that.
Kyreen and I have been eating local honey for a couple months now. I'm lucky enough to not suffer from allergies, but Kyreen's get less severe if she's good about eating the honey and taking local bee pollen supplements. I highly suggest you ask the guy about bee pollen if you see him again.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if the Honey will eventually crystallize if you don't consume it soon enough. It might take a couple weeks. Don't worry, though. It's still safe and I actually enjoy eating it in its crystallized form.
Thanks for the tip! I am definitely not a fan of the raw honey taste, so its taking me some time getting used to it. Maybe the crystallized form will be nicer to me.
DeleteMy oh my...I wish we had stuff like this in Hawaii! There was an article on Yahoo about.cures for.colds. A spoonful of honey was one of them. Chad does it and he strongly believes it helps. So maybe it's good from colds too! If not...we just made honey glazed garlic chicken...let me know if you want the recipe!
ReplyDeleteOoooo! Send me the recipe. I can use some of the honey and just pretend that I've been taking it. HAHA.
Deletesoooooo jealous!
ReplyDeleteOmg I used to live on Treasure Island back when it was a naval base. Just brought back so many memories!
ReplyDeleteAnd also, I have a friend who's Greek and her dad tells her to eat a spoonful of honey every morning. I never asked if she has allergies but now I'm wondering what else honey is good for??
